Case History
On July 28, 2004, Navy Corpsman Jose Ramos, a medic attached to a Marine sniper platoon deployed to Iraq, was suddenly struck by a rocket and everything went black.
His body went into shock while his mind tried to comprehend what had just happened. As his family heard the news, they were relieved to hear that he was alive, but concerned about the extent of his injuries.
The doctors at the field hospital in Iraq worked hard to try and save Mr. Ramos’s arm, but they had to amputate it in theater. The rocket attack also left him with nerve damage in his leg and back, as well as a contused lung, which put him on a respirator for a few days.
Mr. Ramos actively participated in the rehabilitation process, anxious to get to a point where he can do everything he wants to in his life. Through his good relationship with the prosthetics clinic and clinicians, he has worked hard and been flexible about trying different solutions to see what works best for him.
Advanced Arm Dynamics thought that Mr. Ramos would be an ideal patient for Touch Bionics i-Limb Hand, because of his years of experience with myoelectric upper-extremity prosthetics and his keen interest in technological advancements in this area.
The people in Mr. Ramos’ life are curious about his new hand and his favorite feature is that he is now able to grasp items in small spaces.
He continues to experiment with advancements in prosthetic technology, striving to further enhance his quality of life.
