  22 January 2009 - i-LIMB Hand with a Single-Site Control Strategy

Touch Bionics™ introduces a new i-LIMB Hand™ with a single-site control strategy

Livingston, Scotland – January 22, 2009 – Touch Bionics, developer of the world’s first multi-articulating bionic hand, introduces a new version of the i-LIMB Hand with a single-site control strategy.

Traditionally, two viable electrode sites have been necessary to enable patients to use the i-LIMB Hand. The new version of the hand is designed for patients who lack two viable electrode sites and allows a clinician to offer the i-LIMB technology to patients who have only one strong myo site.

All of the function of the i-LIMB Hand are controlled by a single electrode site and feature four independent fully-powered articulating fingers and a manually adjustable thumb with multiple grip patterns.

”We are very pleased with the progress we have made” said Hugh Gill,Director of Technology and Operations. “This opens up a whole new patient community and allows more people to make use of the i-LIMB Hand. This new version yet again shows Touch Bionics’ ongoing commitment to research and development.”

The cost of this version of this updated device is the same as the standard i-LIMB Hand.
