1 January 2009 - Touch Bionics receive the GOOD DESIGN Award

Livingston, Scotland – January 1, 2009 – Touch Bionics™, developer of the world’s first multi-articulating bionic hand, today announced that the company has been awarded the ‘GOOD DESIGN’ award for the i-LIMB Hand™ by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum.

“We are delighted to receive this award and feel it is a recognition of our continuous efforts in developing the i-LIMB Hand” said Phil Newman, marketing director. The i-LIMB Hand is a first-to-market prosthetic device with five individually powered digits. With over 20 years of research and development behind it, the i-LIMB Hand looks and acts like a real human hand and represents a generational advance in bionics and patient care.

Founded in Chicago in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., GOOD DESIGN bestows international recognition upon the world’s most prominent designers and manufacturers for advancing new, visionary, and innovative product concepts, invention and originality, and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered basic product and consumer design.

Since the launch, more than 500 patients worldwide have been fitted and Touch Bionics is rapidly expanding across the globe – with commercial fittings in over 30 countries.
