1 December 2005 - Touch Bionics in Wired Magazine's Top 50 Best Ever Robots

01 December 2005: TouchBionics’ i-LIMB™ system has achieved number 13 in Wired magazine’s list of ‘The 50 Best Robots Ever’. It was featured under its original name of Edinburgh Modular Arm System, and the magazine explained how pressure sensors in the shoulder attachment detect minute fluctuations in muscles, activating motors that control the arms’s movements.

The magazine ends the description with the words “Eat your heart out, Lee Majors” a reference to Hollywood’s own bionic man.

TouchBionics’ i-LIMB system came ahead of famous robots such as R2-D2 and The Terminator.

The Touch Bionics i-LIMBTM Hand offers users a step-change in functionality and performance, enabling patients to do more with their prosthetic hand. For example, the i-LIMB Hand has individually articulating fingers, a rotating thumb and a range of grip patterns. All these features are combined in a hand that is more anatomically correct than any other available product.

The i-LIMB Hand will be the first product available from the Touch Bionics i-LIMB System. The entire i-LIMB System, available in 2007, will be the world’s first complete endoskeletal modular arm system.
