Revolutionary prosthetic hand from Touch Bionics places 14th in Top 50
Livingston, Scotland – November 5, 2008 – Touch Bionics, developer of the world’s first commercially available bionic hand, announced today that its i-LIMB Hand has been recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the Top 50 inventions of 2008.
Placing 14th on the recently published list, the i-LIMB Hand was in good company alongside projects such as the Large Hadron Collider and the world’s fastest supercomputer.
“We are delighted to have been identified by TIME as one of the inventions of the year, a real honour for any innovative company,” said Touch Bionics CEO Stuart Mead. “To have been placed ahead of incredible stories like the Mars Rover, MIT’s MDS robot and Berkeley’s invisibility cloak is a tremendous achievement.”
The i-LIMB Hand is a first-to-market prosthetic device with five individually powered digits. With over 20 years of research and development behind it, the i-LIMB Hand looks and acts like a real human hand and represents a generational advance in bionics and patient care. Since the launch, more than 400 patients worldwide have been fitted and Touch Bionics is rapidly expanding across the globe.
