Touch Bionics a Winner at the 2009 Edison Best New Product Awards™

Livingston, Scotland: Touch Bionics™, developer of the world's first multi-articulating bionic hand, is proud to announce that their i-LIMB Hand™ won silver in the Science and Medial category at the 2009 Edison Best New Product Awards™.

The Edison Best New Product Awards, sponsored this year by Google, The Nielsen Company and Steelcase, focus on new products and services that excel in marketplace innovation, marketplace success, technological innovation, market structure innovation, and societal impact. These criteria align with Edison's own innovation best practices, called the Five Competencies of Innovation™.

Gold, Silver and Bronze winners were announced an Awards Gala on April 1, 2009 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California.

"We are extremely proud and grateful for receiving the silver" said Phil Newman, marketing director. "Sharing the stage with other silver winners such as Google and Speedo is truly encouraging for us as a fast growth and somewhat smaller company."

The i-LIMB Hand is a first-to-market prosthetic device with five individually powered digits. With over 20 years of research and development behind it, the i-LIMB Hand looks and acts like a real human hand and represents a generational advance in bionics and patient care.

Since the launch, more than 600 patients worldwide have been fitted and Touch Bionics is rapidly expanding across the globe - with commercial fittings in over 30 countries.
