Touch Bionics scoops IET Innovation Award

Livingston, Scotland: Touch Bionics, developer of the world's first multi-articulating bionic hand, was named winner of the Product Design Innovation Award at the Institution of Engineering and Technology's (IET) Innovation Awards 2009 last night at Lord's Cricket Ground in London.

The IET Innovation Awards span 15 categories and attracted over 300 entries from around the world. They represent a unique opportunity for innovators to be recognised and provide a showcase for the brightest ideas, highlighting the importance of innovation by celebrating its application across a range of engineering disciplines.

Touch Bionics won for its development of the i-LIMB Hand, the worlds first fully articulating and commercially available bionic hand, with five individually powered digits. The artificial limb looks and acts like a real human hand and represents a generational advance in bionics and patient care.
