Edison Best New Product Awards™

Livingston, Scotland: Touch Bionics™, developer of the world's first multi-articulating bionic hand, is proud to announce that their i-LIMB Hand™ has been chosen as a finalist for the 2009 Edison Best New Product Awards™.

It was on this day in 1847, Thomas Edison was born. In honour and celebration of America's greatest inventor and innovator, the finalists for the prestigious 2009 Edison Best New Product Awards™ are being unveiled today. The awards are among the most elite accolades honouring excellence in new product development, marketing, and innovation.

Gold, Silver and Bronze winners will be announced at an Awards Gala on April 1, 2009 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California.

"We are delighted to be nominated for this award and feel it is recognition of our continuous efforts in developing the i-LIMB Hand" said Phil Newman, marketing director. "Of course we hope to win," Phil continues, "but just being nominated alongside high calibre projects such as Apple's iPhone, Nintendo's WiiFit and even Obama's 2008 Presidential Campaign, is a major recognition for us."

The i-LIMB Hand is a first-to-market prosthetic device with five individually powered digits. With over 20 years of research and development behind it, the i-LIMB Hand looks and acts like a real human hand and represents a generational advance in bionics and patient care.

Since the launch, more than 500 patients worldwide have been fitted and Touch Bionics is rapidly expanding across the globe - with commercial fittings in over 30 countries.
