Benchmark Orthotics and Prosthetics, a division of Physiotherapy Associates, is a leader in the Prosthetics and Orthotics industry in the United States. With over 30 clinics and more than 100 staff, the company prides itself on measuring its success through the achievements of each and every patient.
Whether the reward of a gold medal or the personal satisfaction of independent living, such are the standards that contribute to its success. The clinic differentiates itself on its ability to be innovative with its skill sets and incorporate its clients’ needs into the designs it produces.
At Benchmark O&P, clinicians believe occupational therapy for prosthesis rehibilitation plays a critical role in training upper-extremity patients to maximize their fullest rehabilitation potential by inspiring them to return to normal life with confidence. The therapy often provides feedback that can influence and improve the clinics’ designs to maximize its results.
Benchmark O&P works to provide the best prosthesis designs using patient feedback and input. Based on patient needs, they apply the most appropriate technology and materials available to achieve the desired goals.
“We’ve always been innovative with existing technology and often provide feedback and suggestions to manufacturers during an initial launch or beta testing,” said Kevin Towers, Upper Extremity Specialist at Benchmark O&P. “We try to maximize the effectiveness of all components and technology.”
The clinic is an early adopter of Touch Bionics’ partial hand product, ProDigits.
“Most designs for partial hands include a fixed opposition point and rely solely on a thumb or digit to provide the opposition,” said Towers. “ProDigits can provide a proportional opposition and enlarged grasp not previously available.”
Towers is impressed by the modularity of the ProDigits product, which lends itself well to adaptive configurations and creativity.
“The potential for the technology is an unexplored area that shows great promise to improve function for a very unique set of clients.”
